Rockport, Maine (October 18, 2013) - Bay Chamber Concerts in Rockport is elated to host the groundbreaking pianist Christopher O’Riley at The Bixler Family Concert on Saturday, November 2nd, 4:00 PM at Union Hall, Rockport. As a prestigious artist, pianist, and national radio personality, Mr. O’Riley has stretched the realm of piano performance beyond the scope of conventional boundaries.
From Radiohead, Elliott Smith, Nirvana, and Pink Floyd, to the classical canons of Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, and Ravel; Mr. O’Riley’s unforgettable, ingenious, and sublime interpretations have drawn significant praise from both classical and pop music critics across the globe. He is a modern piano pioneer, who is the pure definition of a cutting-edge classical crossover artist.
As host of the popular classical music radio show, National Public Radio’s From The Top, Mr. O’Riley regularly works and performs with the next generation of brilliant young musicians. From early in his own career, he was honored with many awards at the Leeds, Van Cliburn, Busoni, and Montreal competitions as well as being a recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant and Bay Chamber’s Andrew Wolf Award. Having toured the US with the world-famous Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Orchestra, he has also appeared with the philharmonic orchestras of London, Los Angeles, and New York, as well as the symphonies of Atlanta, Philadelphia, and San Francisco, to name but a few. His collaborators include such illustrious talents as Michael Tilson Thomas, Christopher Hogwood, Leonard Bernstein, JoAnn Falleta, Kurt Mazur, and many more.
