Free Two-Part Series on Writing Tools

Free Two-Part Series on Writing Tools, October 20 and 27

“Tools for Creative Writers,” a two-part series focusing on selected fundamental writing elements, will be offered on Sunday, October 20 and Sunday, October 27, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. These free programs are being offered by writing instructor and creative coach Teresa Piccari. The first session will focus on creating strong characters, capable of evoking reader likability and empathy, who undergo a character arc that illustrates the human condition as they evolve. Writing natural-sounding dialog, or learning how to make your characters talk like people actually speak, will also be covered.
Session two will illuminate the importance of story, that serves as the framework of all good writing and is the crucial “take away” a reader desires. The importance of sensory writing will also be highlighted as a method to develop scenes and images readers can relate to.

Each week will include writing prompts tailored to the featured topics, as well as lecture and open discussion. Attendees should arrive ready to write and participate in dynamic discussion in a supportive environment. Pre-registration is required as space is limited to 12 people. Reserve your space by calling the library at 236-3440.

Writing coach Teresa Piccari is the proprietor of The Village Scribe, a professional writing and editing service located at The Wellness Center in Camden.
