Everyman Rep Announces Auditions!‏

Rockport, Maine - The Everyman Repertory Theater will be holding auditions for The Trip to Bountiful by Henry Foote, on February 7th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Rockport Opera House. The play, adapted from a television play by Foote, tells the story of a lonely widow (Mrs Carrie 'Mother' Watts) who wants to return to her hometown, but is consistently thwarted by her overbearing son (Ludie) and bossy daughter-in-law (Jessie Mae). One day she successfully breaks free and embarks on her trip to Bountiful, TX in hopes of gaining understanding and peace of mind. Along the way, she encounters a kind policeman (who has been looking out for her by request of her son) and a young woman (Thelma) traveling alone who elicits memories of the Mother Watts’ youth. The drama is an understated and elegiac portrayal of the struggle-of-self associated with aging and the bittersweet nostalgia of loss. It is considered Foote’s greatest work, and the film adaptation won Geraldine Page her first Oscar for the role as Mother Watts.

The play calls for men and women of a range of ages, but mostly middle age to older adults.

In addition to casting, The Everyman Rep is also seeking a producer, stage manager, as well as a sales and marketing position to sell advertisements for the rest of the season. All positions are paid, and the sales position works on a 20% commission.

The Everyman Repertory Theatre is a registered 501(c)(3) not for profit professional theatre company committed to bringing live theatre to the people of Midcoast Maine. They typically hold one open audition for the year and delight in seeing the wealth of hidden talent in the Midcoast. Auditionees may prepare a monologue but it is not required; they will read from the script alone and with other auditionees.

The Trip to Bountiful will be performed April 6th - 22nd, 2013 at the Rockport Opera House.
