Cold weather ideal for snow making at Portland’s snow park
Portland, Maine - Thanks to the recent cold temperatures today, Recreation and Facilities Management crews will be making snow at Payson Park starting this afternoon at approximately 1:00 PM. The snow will give the public the opportunity to enjoy recent improvements to the park for skiers, snowboarders and sledders. Throughout the day and tomorrow, crews will be adding up to six inches of snow to the hill in advance of the weekend. The snowmaking equipment was donated two years ago by Ben Susla to the city for use at the snow park.
Payson Park offers much for the winter enthusiast including a rail, fun box (wider rail), and mini half pipe for snowboarders and skiers to test out their skills. The half pipe was constructed into the hill two years ago with the donation of excess material from a Maine Department of Transportation culvert replacement project as well as the donation of equipment and labor from several local businesses.
The snow making is expected to continue into the evening.
