Blue Hill, Maine - Deer Isle artist and furniture builder Bruce Bulger will be showing his artwork at the Blue Hill Public Library during the month of February. The show, entitled Inspiration of Travel, is a mixed media exhibition of drawings, paintings, furniture, and sculpture, all relating to his travels through Switzerland, Norway, Italy, France, Honduras, and Katahdin and the Maine Coast.
About his artwork Bruce offers, “I've always found, as an artist with an affinity for drawing, that being prepared to observe and record has resulted in great moments of discovery. Landscapes, people, architecture-- are all part of travel. I prepare art supplies for every destination, and at a moment’s notice I’ll be drawing. These now become intensive observations with the goal of creating a great drawing. The challenge is hand, mind and heart connected.”
Bruce graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art and subsequently became interested in architecture and furniture design, where illustration was very useful. It also gave him a launch point for his interests in drawing and painting. He currently works as a furniture designer and builder and does other artwork as time allows. His studios and gallery are on Deer Isle at the old Deer Isle High School Seamark Building.
The public is invited to a reception for the show on Friday February 8th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. The exhibit will be available for viewing during library hours starting February 2nd. For more information, call the library at 374-5515. Bruce’s work may also be viewed at www.brucewbulger.com.
