FARMINGTON, ME --- The Thomas College women's soccer
team slid back to the .500 mark in North Atlantic Conference play after
falling 3-0 to the University of Maine at Farmington on Thursday
afternoon.
The Beavers (5-8-1, 2-4-1 NAC) struck early as Kaiti Kinney scored just 76 seconds in off an assist by Lydia Roy.
Thomas (6-7, 3-3 NAC) was able to keep UMF to the lone goal until the
71st minute when Bridget Humphrey chipped a ball in from outside the 18
that sailed over the head of Terrier goalkeeper Paige Leary (jr., Palermo, Maine / Erskine Academy) and bounced off the middle of the far goal post into the open net.
Humphrey's ability to chip the ball also played into the Beavers'
third goal of the day. Awarded a free kick outside the 18 in the 77th
minute, Humphrey lofted a ball into the box that was headed in by Haley
Murano for the goal.
UMF outshot Thomas, 40-6, including a 19-2 edge in shots on goal and had 15 corner kicks to the Terriers' three.
Thomas was led by first year Cassie Contigiani (Belmont, N.H. / Belmont), who had two of the team's six shots. First year Lauren Pelletier (Bath, Maine / Morse) and junior Kristina Emmons
(South Berwick, Maine / Marshwood) each had a shot on goal. Leary went
the distance in goal for the Terriers, making 15 saves on 18 shots on
goal.
The Terriers return to the pitch Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. Homecoming/Family Weekend showdown with Husson at Smith Field.
