The Polar Bears (6-4-1, 4-3-0 NESCAC) rebound from a pair of losses last weekend while handing the Continentals (4-5-3, 2-4-3 NESCAC) their first loss since September 20. Bowdoin spoils a seven game unbeaten streak for Hamilton.
How It Happened
- Jamie Hofstetter gave Bowdoin the early 1-0 lead 10:06 into the game. Following a Taylor Haist corner kick that was lofted high into box, the ball deflected off a Hamilton defender and bounced in front of Hofstetter. The senior forward had her back to the goal, but turned on the bouncing ball and sent a shot high into the crossbar and back into the net.
- Hamilton tied the game with 41 seconds remaining in the first half. Katja Dunlap served a ball into the box from the left side, over the head of the Bowdoin defenders, giving Darby Phillbrick an uncontested look at Bridget McCarthy. Phillbrick popped her shot over the head of McCarthy to even the game and force the eventual overtime.
- Both teams tested the goalies in the second half, with Hamilton forcing McCarthy to make four stops to keep the game even and Rachel Cooley making six saves. Hamilton nearly came away with the victory in the final seconds of regulation as Becca Rees' shot deflected off the crossbar and over the net as time expired.
- Hofstetter collected the ball in the midfield and made her way towards the Hamilton box to set up Bowdoin's overtime game winner. Hofstetter slid a leading pass to her right for Patterson to run onto. Patterson cut back to her left side, shaking her defender, and sent her shot towards the far post for the game winner four minutes into overtime.
- McCarthy ended with nine saves, including a pair in overtime. Cooley topped seven total shots for Hamilton.
- Bowdoin returns to play today at UMaine-Farmington at 3:00 p.m. as the Polar Bears take on the Beavers.
- Hamilton travels to Plymouth State for a noon contest today.
