The Mules move to 4-6-1 overall heading into Saturday’s home game
with Amherst College at 11 a.m. Husson dropped to 5-7-1 overall and will
be back in Waterville on Saturday against Thomas College at 3:30 p.m.
Van Leesten, who scored two goals against Wesleyan University on
Saturday, scored two more in the opening 11:20 of the game. Katherine
Gillespie (Arudel, Maine) had the assist with a cross to Van Leesten,
who shot the ball and had it deflect off a defender at 5:10. Her second
goal was a chip shot over the goalkeeper after a through ball from Emily
Martin (Bethesda, Md.)
Katrina Holt put the Mules up 3-0 at halftime when she headed in a ball at 28:36.
Van Leesten scored her third goal at 53:43 when she ran on to a
ball from Catherine Fraser (Orono, Minn.) and had her shot find the
corner.
Leah Hibbad (Portsmouth, R.I.) put Husson on the scoreboard at
67:09 when she took a pass, found a little dribbling room, and scored to
break the shutout.
Emily Price (Winchester, Mass.) scored the Mules’ final goal at
85:49 when she tapped in a ball that had been bouncing around in front.
The Mules, who had a 26-10 shot advantage, had five saves from
goalkeeper Samantha Rizzo (Swampscott, Mass.). Kayla Gordon (Wiscasset,
Maine) and Jordyn Hopkins (Limestone, Maine) combined for nine Husson
stops.
