GORHAM, Maine -- Kayla Hamel
scored a pair of goals to lead a high-powered University of New England
attack, as the Nor'easters blanked the University of Southern Maine by a
score of 7-0 in non-conference women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon
(Oct. 13) at Hannaford Field.
The victory was the fourth straight
for the Nor'easters (10-3), who defeated Southern Maine (3-9) for the
eighth consecutive time. UNE has now posted double-digits in victories
in six of the last eight seasons.
Kayla Hamel got UNE on the board in the 19th minute, taking a drop pass from Jackie Dickerson and
driving a low shot inside the near post.
The Nor'easters would tally again in the 34th minute when Edie Pallozzi took the ball out of the air and sent a shot inside the near post. Devon Wolfenden assisted on the play. UNE took that 2-0 cushion into intermission and led 7-3 in shots.
The second frame was all UNE. Hamel notched her second goal just 3:44 into the half. That tally was followed by markers from Taylor Littlefield, Wolfenden, Taylor Usko and Brionne Turcotte
over a span of less than 16 minutes. The Nor'easters would pepper the
Huskies the entire half, taking 21 shots after intermission while
holding USM without a shot.
Brielle Robinson played the initial 69:05 in goal for the Nor'easters to register her 10th win. Emily Ashman and Molly Early went the rest of the way for UNE.
Marissa Temple had a busy afternoon in goal for the Huskies, making 12 stops.
The
Nor'easters travel to Boston on Saturday for an important Commonwealth
Coast Conference match at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Kick-off is
slated for 12:30 p.m.
