STANDISH, Maine – The Thomas College men's lacrosse team opened their 2018 campaign with a 16-4 loss on the road to Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Tuesday night.
The Monks improve to 2-4 while the Terriers sit at 0-1.
The Monks struck early, as senior Matt Donnell netted the first men's lacrosse goal at the SJC Athletics Complex off a Luigi Grimaldi feed just 55 seconds into the game, and controlled the pace of play throughout the contest.
St. Joe's held a 9-0 advantage at halftime and did not allow a goal until Thomas senior Colby Blondin (Colchester, Vt.) hit pay dirt with 3:03 remaining in the third quarter.
All four of the Monks' goalies saw time in goal, as Connor Trainor, Logan Skinner, Wyatt Porter, and Zachary Remillard combined to stop five of the nine shots they faced in the triumph.
Thomas senior Connor Lamberton (Shohola, Pa.) turned away 18 shots in the losing effort.
Saint Joseph's held advantages in shots (60-19), ground balls (56-30), and face-offs (16-7) and was 10-13 on clear attempts with 19 turnovers while Thomas was 10-27 on clear bids and committed 41 turnovers on the evening.
Blondin scored three goals with an assist and five ground balls and was 5-16 on face-off attempt.  Senior Jacob Kendall (Lewiston, Maine) netted a goal with a pair of ground balls while Conner Blair (North Hartland, Vt.) chipped in with five ground balls and three caused turnovers
The Terriers will host their first conference game on Saturday, March 24 as they face Green Mountain at 1:00 p.m.
