AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Thomas College baseball team scattered 12 hits in a 12-5 victory over Bard College on Wednesday morning at Lake Myrtle Park.
The Terriers earn their first victory of the season at 1-4 while the Raptors fall to 4-6.
Thomas opened with a big second inning as they brought around six runs. Nicholas Cousins (Wells, Maine) got his team on the board with an RBI single followed by a two-RBI single from Tyler Gee (Falmouth, Maine). After Cousins scored on an error, Alex Curtis (Monmouth, Maine) doubled to deep right center to score two more.
The Raptors cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth as Esteban Rivera doubled down the line to score two. He later scored on a wild pitch to come within three.
The Terriers tacked on four more in the bottom of the sixth on four straight hits. Darren Kelly (Foxboro, Mass.) tripled in Curtis who reached on an RBI single. Hank Vinall (Blue Hill, Maine) and Riley Simonetti (Minneapolis, Minn.) followed with a single and double to score two more.
After a Raptors homerun from Mike Pizzuto in the seventh, Kelly hit another RBI triple along with a sacrifice fly from Vinall to extend the lead. Bard added one run in the ninth on a fielder's choice to finish the scoring at 12-5.
Dylan Copeland (Salisbury, Mass.) earned the win on the mound for Thomas in his first start, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out five. Matt Rutherford (Saco, Maine) and Dominic Esposito (Portland, Maine) combined for five innings of relief, giving up two runs.
Elliot Goldstein was given the loss for Bard after 1.1 innings, allowing five hits and six runs.
The Terriers will face Lawrence University on Thursday in a doubleheader.
