Colby College Softball falls in season opener in Florida


CLERMONT, Fla. -- Holly Lallis went 1-for-2, walked, and stole a base for the Colby College softball team in a 6-2 season-opening loss to Wellesley College on Sunday.
The Mules play Wisconsin-Stevens Point in another game at 2 p.m. Sunday.
 
Julia Saul and Vanessa Warshaw (pictured) both had one hit and each player scored. Paige Hartnett had the other hit for the Mules. Ella Hommeyer drove in a run, walked twice, and had a stolen base. Lolo Niemiec had her first collegiate RBI.
 
Wiley Holton had a solid outing on the mound against Wellesley. She allowed just three earned runs in a complete game while striking out three and walking one.
 
Wellesley scored lone runs in the second and third innings to get ahead early. The Mules trailed 5-0 and then got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hommeyer walked with the bases loaded to bring in Saul, while Niemiec was hit by a pitch to score Warshaw.
