Monks Soar Past Falcons, 19-3

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Saint Joseph's College (5-0, 2-0 GNAC) defeated Albertus Magnus College (1-2, 0-1 GNAC), 19-3, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks controlled play from the start and held a 4-0 lead after sophomore Madison Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine) scored off a Samantha Medlin (Kingston, Mass.) assist nine minutes into the contest. Saint Joseph's held a 9-2 advantage at the break and netted six-consecutive goals in the first nine minutes of the second stanza en route to claiming a 15-2 cushion.
THE KEEPERS:
Saint Joseph's sophomore Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) stopped seven of the 10 shots she faced while Albertus Magnus starter Lexie Finn posted 22 saves in a losing effort.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (51-13), ground balls (26-13), draw controls (19-5), and caused turnovers (5-3) in the victory.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • Senior Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) scored five goals with an assist, eight ground balls, eight draw controls, and three caused turnovers
  • Junior Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) scored three goals with four ground balls and three draw controls
  • Junior Brittany Arsenault (Westbrook, Maine) tallied two goals and an assist with a career-high seven draw controls
  • Beaulieu scored two goals with an assist
  • Medlin added a goal, two assists, and a pair of ground balls
LEADERS – ALBERTUS MAGNUS:
  • Courtney Cacace scored two goals
  • Sabrina Pohlig scored a goal with two ground balls
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 5-0 in the history of the series with Albertus Magnus College.
