Bates College Women's lacrosse stopped by No. 3 Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Kiley Coffey scored five times to lead No. 3 nationally ranked Trinity College to a 13-2 New England Small College Athletic Conference victory over the Bates women's lacrosse team Saturday.

Trinity, an NCAA semifinalist in 2017, improves to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC, while the Bobcats fall to 3-3 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Trinity led wire-to-wire, taking a 2-0 lead in the first 5:25 on goals by Coffey and Allie Barrett and extending that to 5-1 by the 11-minute mark of the first half.

First-year midfielder Summer Dias (West Newton, Mass.) scored the first Bates goal with 21:51 on the clock and junior Katie Allard (Ridgewood, N.J.) ended a 3-0 Bantam run with the other Bobcat tally, on an assist from senior Teal Otley (Cumberland, Maine) with 8:50 remaining before the break.

Coffey had scored twice more during Trinity's 3-0 run and added her fourth of the first half on a free-position shot with 4:06 left to give the Bantams a 6-2 advantage at the half.

Trinity scored all seven of the game's second-half goals, with Sydney Bell scoring two of the seven for the Bantams.

Trinity outshot Bates by a 26-to-13 margin and scooped 22 ground balls to 10 for the Bobcats. The turnover difference was less pronounced, 22-18 in Trinity's favor. The Bantams also forced 22 turnovers while committing 18.

Zoe Ferguson made nine saves for Trinity, while Bates junior Eliza Statile (Ipswich, Mass.) made six saves.

Bates caused 14 Trinity turnovers, with five Bobcats causing two apiece: sophomore Caroline Kerrigan (Falls Church, Va.), sophomore Isabelle Paulus (Bath, Maine), senior Annie Duke (Englewood, Colo.), Allard and Dias.

Senior Camille Belletete (Jaffrey, N.H.) tied Trinity's Caroline McKenna with a game-high four draw controls.

Bates' next game will be at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against non-conference opponent Roger Williams.
