...STRONG WIND GUSTS EXPECTED TODAY AND TONIGHT...
.A powerful coastal storm will develop off the southern coast of
New England today. To the north, a strong easterly low level jet
will form. As warmer, maritime air pushes inland this may allow
stronger wind gusts to mix down. The easterly winds favor the
Seacoast of New Hampshire and coastal York County for the
strongest potential wind gusts, up to 60 mph. Along the coast of
western Maine from Portland northward as well as the rest of the
coastal plain and interior southeastern New Hampshire, stronger
wind gusts are likely. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph can be
expected.
...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO
MIDNIGHT EST TONIGHT...
* Winds...Northeast 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
* Timing...Winds are expected to increase this morning, with the
strongest winds likely this afternoon and evening.
* Impacts...Strong wind gusts may lead to downed limbs,
resulting in power outages.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 30 to 39 mph...or
wind gusts 46 to 57 mph...are expected. Winds this strong can
make driving difficult...especially for high profile vehicles.
Use extra caution.
...COASTAL FLOODING EXPECTED TODAY INTO SATURDAY, POSSIBLY
SIGNIFICANT ON THE SEACOAST...
...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS
MORNING TO 2 PM EST SATURDAY...

* Timing...Flooding is likely, and may occur across several tide
cycles through Saturday morning. At Portland Harbor high tides
are forecast to occur 1107 AM and 1138 PM Friday, and 1157 AM
Saturday.
* Impacts...In addition to coastal flooding, long period swell
over the course of several tide cycles will lead to
significant splash-over and coastal erosion.

A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
