Early goal hurts men’s soccer in loss

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — The Colby College men’s soccer team gave up an early goal and then had goalkeeper Dan Carlson go down a few minutes later with an injury in a 3-0 loss to Middlebury College on Saturday.

Colby drops to 2-5-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The Panthers improve to 6-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the league.
 
Daniel O’Grady put Middlebury up 1-0 just 1:32 into the game when he headed in a cross from Adam Glaser.
 
Carlson was hurt at 6:30 of the first half when he came out to challenge on a ball. Carlson did have two saves during his brief outing. John Pappas took over for the Mules and made nine saves.
 
The Mules settled down quickly and only trailed 1-0 at intermission. Glaser got Middlebury’s second goal at 62:09 when he tapped in a long free kick by Deklan Robinson.
 
Kirk Horton closed out the scoring off a corner kick. Robinson and Tom Dils had assists on the play at 74:20.
 
Colby plays host to Husson University on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. at Harold Alfond Stadium.
