Bangor, Maine - When newborns come into the world and need immediate and intensive care, it’s a stressful time for families. EMMC staff, caregivers, and families reunite to share stories, memories, laughter, and celebrate children who had a rough start in life every year at the annual Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Reunion. Families who have been touched by care at EMMC’s NICU are invited to attend this year’s event on May 3 from 2 to 4 pm.
“This event brings families and staff together to share wonderful success stories of newborns who need special medical attention in the beginning and have grown up strong and healthy,” says Lisa Barnett, RN, MSN, staff nurse, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. “It’s a great way for staff to reconnect with families who are so appreciative for the care provided to their babies at a fragile time.”
Additionally, EMMC’s NICU will be featured at the Baby Expo being held at the Cross Insurance Center on Saturday, May 2 from 10 am to 3 pm. Staff will share information about the new NICU that will open in early 2016, and at 10:30 am, there will be a special presentation featuring a father who will share his own story of the unexpected need for neonatal care and the importance of the NICU project. There is no cost to attend.
Both weekend events will feature details about the future of EMMC’s NICU and ways the community can get involved.
