“Met Live in HD” season continues at Strand with “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” on January 31

ROCKLAND, Maine - The 2014-2015 Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD season of broadcasts from Lincoln Center to the Strand Theatre continues Saturday, January 31 at 1pm with Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann).”  An Encore broadcast takes place Tuesday, February 10 at 1pm.

The magnetic tenor Vittorio Grigolo takes on the tortured poet and unwitting adventurer of the title of Offenbach’s operatic masterpiece, in the Met’s wild, kaleidoscopic production. Soprano Hibla Gerzmava faces the operatic hurdle of singing all three heroines—each an idealized embodiment of some aspect of Hoffmann’s desire. Thomas Hampson portrays the shadowy Four Villains, and Yves Abel conducts the sparkling score.

Sung in French, with English subtitles. Running time: 3 hours, 45 min. Tickets on sale now: $27 adults, $15 students; Encore tickets available day-of-show: Adult $23 / Student $5. The theater in located at 345 Main Street, Rockland. For more information on all upcoming live concerts, films, HD broadcasts, and events at the Strand, visit www.rocklandstrand.com.
