Free holiday fun Sunday, December 7 at the Owls Head Transportation Museum

Owls Head, Maine - Join the Owls Head Transportation Museum on Sunday, Dec. 7 for their annual Holiday celebration, Holidays at the Museum. This exciting celebration is an all-day affair and admission to the Museum is free to all. In 2013 more than 500 visitors attended this very special holiday event.

The Museum opens at 10:00 a.m., and children are invited to bring their letters to Santa or write a letter at the Museum. Letter writing, ornament crafting, cookie decorating and coloring stations will be open from 11:00 until 12:00 when Santa will arrive from the North Pole by air, having temporarily traded his team of reindeer for the Museum’s 1979 Piper Super Cub.

From 12:15 until 12:50 letters from children will be collected while Santa reads a favorite Christmas
story. At the adjournment of the reading, the children’s letters will be packed in a special “Polar Air Mail” mailbag and picked up in the Museum’s 1930 Model A Mail Truck. The audience is invited to head outside to watch as the Piper Super Cub, piloted by one of Santa’s helpers, departs Owls Head en route to the North Pole with the holiday letters on board. The plane takes off from the Museum’s famous Runway 17 and departure is scheduled at 1:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Once the letters are safely on their way, Santa will lead the children back inside and introduce the Mid-Coast Community Band as they hold their annual holiday concert from 1:30 to 3:15. Complimentary refreshments will be offered during intermission.
