The annual event coincides with National Fire Prevention Week includes
horses and a Pipe and Drum band performance
Portland Maine - On Saturday, October 11, 2014, the 12th annual Open House at the Portland Fire Museum, located at 157 Spring Street, will be held from 10 AM to 3 PM. by the Portland Veteran Firemen’s Association and the Portland Fire Department during National Fire Prevention Week.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see the Portland Fire Department’s proud past with two floors of exhibits, including two hand-pump engines, and a 1938 McCann motor pumper. A new display has been added titled “Protecting America” with Portland’s Word War II Civilian Defense Auxiliary Fire Units and the impact of September 11th, 2001 on America.
The Claddagh Mhor Pipe and Drum Band will perform on Spring Street in front of the Museum in the late morning. Two horses will return to the horse stalls inside the firehouse and present day firefighters and apparatus will be there throughout the day. Historic Portland Fire Department videos will be shown, including the 1912 film, showing Portland’s firefighters and horse-drawn apparatus and leaving and returning to neighborhood firehouses on the peninsula.
Fire Prevention and Educational handouts will be available for children.
