Lewiston, Maine - The Pirates will try to win their first home game of 2014 when they face the Binghamton Senators. Puck drops at 7 pm for the only home meeting between the Pirates and Senators this year.
The Pirates dropped a 7-4 decision to the St. John’s IceCaps. The Pirates allowed 5 power play goals, the most of the season. 4 different Pirates scored, with Phil Lane scoring just 18 seconds into the game. Jordan Szwarz, Brandon McMillan and Lucas Lessio had the other Pirates goals. Mark Visentin made 26 saves in the loss. The loss gives the Pirates a winless January at home, with their last win at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee coming December 31st against Bridgeport.
The B-Sens dropped a 5-1 decision to the Pirates’ VIP Cup rival Manchester Monarchs last night. Binghamton goaltender Nathan Lawson gave up five goals on 21 shots before being relieved by Andrew Hammond during the second period. David Dziurzynski, the brother of Pirates forward Darian Dziurzynski, scored the lone Senators goal, which came in the third period.
This is the first matchup of the year between the Pirates and Senators, and only time the Senators will visit the Androscoggin Bank Colisee this season. The last meeting between the two teams in Maine was October 27, 2012, when the Pirates hosted the 6th annual Pink in the Rink event at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The Pirates won that game 4-2, with current Pirates Andy Miele, Jordan Szwarz, and Mathieu Brodeur all tallying their first goals of the 2012-13 season in the win. In their last meeting, the Pirates dropped a 6-1 decision in Binghamton on December 7th, 2012.
