Susan Dowley, Artist of the Month

Susan Dowley, Artist of the Month at Camden Public Library

Susan Dowley’s bright pastel landscapes will be on display at the Camden Public Library through the month of March. Dowley teaches art at Camden Rockport Elementary School, and will be the library’s Artist of the Month. There will be a reception for the artist in the Picker Room at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, and all are invited to view the artwork and meet the artist.

Born in Syracuse, New York, Susan started coming to Maine as a young girl to family property in Cutler. She returned to live and work on the coast in Cutler for periods of time in her twenties. These experiences were a big influence on her art and created a foundation for her work.

Susan moved to Hope in 2006 where she continued to record the natural world. “Each piece is a response to a moment. I apply many layers of pastel to achieve desired colors, textures, and a quality of light.” The paintings are local familiar and well-loved landscapes. Shown here are scenes of Beech Hill and other locations.
