Hockey Weekend To Take Place February 28th – March 2nd
Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates yesterday announced their schedule of events for USA Hockey’s Hockey Weekend Across America. The Pirates will play at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee twice during the week, facing Worcester on Thursday February 27th and the Hartford Wolf Pack on Sunday, March 2.
The Pirates will start Hockey Weekend Across America a day early as they host the Worcester Sharks on Thursday, February 27th at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. Fans who wear their jersey to the Box Office can receive an $8 ticket. The first 1500 fans will receive a Chris Brown Bobblehead, courtesy of Bath Savings Bank. Brown is a graduate of the US National Development Team. Following the game, L.L. Bean will host a community skate on the Colisee ice.
Friday is “Wear Your Jersey Day” across the United States! Wear your jersey to work or school and snap a photo – send that photo to portlandpiratesahl@gmail.com and you’ll be featured on the Pirates’ Facebook page and get two free tickets to Sunday’s game against the Hartford Wolfpack! Participating fans will also be entered to win a team signed Pirates jersey, which will be announced at Sunday’s game.
Saturday is “Try Hockey For Free Day”, sponsored by the NHL, and the Pirates will be co-hosting 2 events with the Portland Junior Pirates. Participants will receive instruction on the basics of hockey as well as learn how to skate properly. Participants are required to wear a helmet, shin guards and skates. Free clinics will be held at both MHG IceCentre in Saco and at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston. The Clinic in Saco will take place from 7:50-8:50 a.m. while the clinic in Lewiston will take place from 9:00 – 10:00 am. On Sunday, the Pirates will celebrate “Local Hockey Heroes” prior to their game at 4 PM against the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. This year’s Local Hockey Hero Honorees will be announced next week.
Sunday’s game will also be American Heart Association Night for Cardiac Awareness presented by Central Medical Center. The Pirates will wear their red road jerseys as they raise awareness for cardiac health. For more information, visit www.portlandpirates.com.
The Pirates will also hold a drawing contest during both home games and online. The first 50 fans who submit a hockey drawing to portlandpiratesahl@gmail.com or draw a picture at either game at the Spirit Station located under section 1 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee will receive a signed puck! All the photos will be posted on the Pirates’ Facebook page after the games.
