SUV Crash Claims Jefferson Man

Union, Maine - At approximately 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, Knox County Sheriff’s Office was called to a single vehicle crash on Rt. 17 in Union.  The vehicle involved had been travelling east on Rt. 17 when the operator, for an unknown reason, lost control of the 2005 Toyota Rav4.  The vehicle veered off the road, clipped the end of the guard rail before travelling approximately another 300 ft. before coming to rest amongst small trees and brush in a low lying area off the road.  It was just by chance that a passenger in a vehicle heading west on Rt. 17 noticed the vehicle down the embankment.  They stopped and called 9-1-1 immediately.  It appeared to them as no one was around the vehicle.

Deputy Matt Elwell arrived on scene first and went to the vehicle to discover a single occupant male operator in the vehicle.  Chris LaFrance, 37, of Jefferson was unresponsive. When medical personnel arrived on scene, they determined that Mr. LaFrance was deceased.  It is unknown at this time if any medical condition of the victim was a factor.

Union Fire and Ambulance assisted at the scene along with All Directions Recovery.
