Saco, Maine – Phoenix Coyotes Assistant General Manager and Portland Pirates General Manager Brad Treliving announced today that the Portland Pirates have signed center Corey Trivino and left wing Jesse Mychan to professional tryout contracts (PTO).
Trivino joins the Pirates from the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Trivino spent 4 season at Boston University prior to turning pro in 2012, scoring 31 goals and 73 assists in 102 games. The 6’1, 193 lbs. center has spent the last two season in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades and the Stockton Thunder, scoring 23 goals and 54 assists in 92 games. Trivino was originally drafted in the 2nd round (36th overall) by the New York Islanders in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Mychan joins the Pirates after starting the season with the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL. A teammate of Brendan Shinnimin with Tri-City of the WHL in 2011-12, Mychan has suited up for 26 with the Eagles, tallying 4 goals and adding 4 assists. The 6’2, 200 lbs winger is a native of Saskatoon, Saskatoon and is the current ECHL leader in penalty minutes with 123.
The Pirates will next play Sunday afternoon as they travel to St. John’s for the first of three games against the IceCaps. Puck drop is at 2:30 PM EST. Sunday’s game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County.
