What’s better than getting out of the cold and into a warm theater and seeing the best that Hollywood has offered from the past decades? For the holidays, The Grand offers everyone the opportunity to see a classic film the way it was meant to be seen- projected on a giant screen, larger than life- a film that is all ages-appropriate, so you can bring the whole family! And in MGM’s great musical “Meet Me in St. Louis”, the audience can be transported back to a simpler time, enjoying the great Judy Garland singing some of her biggest hits including “The Boy Next Door”, “The Trolley Song” and, of course, that timeless Holiday classic “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”!
Directed by Vincente Minnelli, the story takes place in the year leading up to the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair and hinges on the possibility that banker Alonzo Smith (Leon Ames), might uproot his family to New York, scuttling his daughter Esther (Garland)’s romance with boy-next-door John Truett (Tom Drake) and causing similar emotional trauma for the rest of the household. The cast includes Mary Astor as Ames’ wife, Lucille Bremer as another Ames daughter, Marjorie Main as the housekeeper and 6-year-old Margaret O’Brien as the youngest daughter, “Tootie” (for which she won a special Oscar the following year).
So bring the whole family, get out of the cold and share the experience of seeing one of Hollywood’s classic movies the way it was meant to be seen- on the big screen- as The Grand presents “Meet Me in St. Louis”!
“Meet Me in St. Louis” is part of the film program at The Grand which includes a Vacation matinee screening of the musical “Annie” (starring Aileen Quinn, Albert Finney and Carol Burnett) showing daily at 1 pm from Thursday, December 26th through Tuesday December 31st for only $1 per person!
