Flying Santa, Mid-Coast Community Band and more! Celebrate the Holidays at the Owls Head Transportation Museum

Owls Head, Maine - Join the Owls Head Transportation Museum on Sunday, Dec. 8 for their annual Holiday celebration. This exciting celebration is an all day affair and admission to the museum is free to all.

The museum opens at 10:00 a.m. and children are invited to bring their letters to Santa or write a letter at the museum. Letter writing, ornament crafting and coloring stations will be open from 11:30 until 12:30 when Santa will arrive from the North Pole by air, having temporarily traded his team of reindeer for the Museum’s 1979 Piper Super Cub.

From 12:45 until 1:15 letters from children will be collected while Santa reads a favorite Christmas story. At the adjournment of the reading the children’s letters will be packed in a special “Polar Air Mail” mailbag and picked up in the museum’s Model A Mail Truck as the audience heads outside to watch as the Piper Super Cub, piloted by one of Santa’s helpers, performs an air mail pickup, heading to the North Pole with the holiday letters in tow. The airmail pickup is performed on the museum’s famous Runway 17 and is scheduled weather permitting.

Once the letters are safely on their way, Santa will lead the children back inside and introduce the Mid-Coast Community Band as they hold their annual holiday concert from 1:30 to 3:15. Complimentary refreshments will be offered during intermission.

The Museum Store will be offering 20% off all merchandise during the festivities, the sale will continue through Dec 24. Check out the store to find the perfect gift for the transportation enthusiast on your holiday shopping list. The museum store carries an assortment of automobile diecast models, Guillow's balsa wood aircraft model kits, a variety of aviation and automobile books and an array of children's transportation themed toys and books, artisan crafted jewelry, apparel and much more.
