Bixby & Co., LLC Moving Operations To Rockland

Bixby & Co., LLC, makers of BIXBY BARS, will be moving from its current location in the Coastal Farms Food Hub and Incubation Facility for new manufacturing businesses in Belfast in order to expand its operations in Rockland, effective March 1, 2014. Founded in 2011, Bixby & Co. invented unique chocolate bars known as BIXBY BARS:  Organic chocolate + fruit + nuts + spice = real food.  Bixby & Co. has recently been notified that it is a finalist in the 2014 Good Food Awards aimed at creating and promoting ethical and sustainable foods.

Owner, Kate McAleer, acknowledged the support and help from Coastal Farms & Foods.  "It was really a great fit for us when we moved to Maine in March 2013 from the Hudson Valley region of New York State.  The owners of Coastal Farms and its staff have been extremely supportive and the food hub offered what we needed at the time." It is now time for us to move on to our own facility, says McAleer.  "Our wholesale business continues to grow and that will require us to have more space to expand our output."

Bixby will be leasing the former ice factory space from O'Hara Corporation in Rockland, Maine.  “We looked at a number of possible locations and this space simply meets our needs.” said McAleer.

“We at Coastal Farms & Foods are pleased to have been able to work with Bixby & Co. at a time when they were in need of food processing and storage space.  They moved into our facility in late March and were up and running in two days.  In addition to significantly expanding their business while at Coastal Farms, they have provided help and advice to other food producers using our facilities to incubate and grow their businesses.

Bixby & Co. is a perfect example of the role Coastal Farms is playing in the development of local food production businesses.  We wish them well as they continue to grow, said Wayne Snyder of Coastal Farms.”

“The Mid Coast is very fortunate to have Coastal Farms and Foods as a food hub and incubator.  It is a great place to have a start-up food business.  It is set up for just this reason.  We were lucky to be referred to Coastal Farms and Food," said McAleer.
