Rockland, Maine - The 21st annual William Stinson Jr. Memorial Alumni Basketball Games, for Rockland District High School graduates, will be Saturday, Dec. 28 at Oceanside High School, east campus, the former RDHS.
Former Tigers who would like to participate in the event should call Tammy Barrows at 671-8824.
The women's game will begin at 6 p.m. and the men's contest to immediately follow.
Stinson was a three-sport Rockland Fighting Tiger student-athlete who died in a drunk driving accident Oct. 30, 1993. After his death, a memorial scholarship fund was established in his name. In December of that year the first William Stinson Jr. Memorial Alumni Basketball Games were held "as a way to remember our friend as well as to raise money for his scholarship fund," said Barrows.
For the past 20 years, the Stinson scholarship has been given to RDHS graduates to aid in their secondary education. Barrows said although RDHS is no more, the event continues to be held in "remembrance for our friend" and to "respectively recognize the history of our alma mater."
Scholarships are now awarded to Oceanside High School graduates.
