Portland, Maine - Portland Ovations presents cellist David Finckel, pianist Wu Han and violinist Philip Setzer, at Merrill Auditorium for an afternoon concert Saturday, October 26th at 3pm.
Musical America's 2012 Musicians of the Year, cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han are joined by violinist Philip Setzer, forming a peerless chamber music trio. Finckel and Han rank among the most esteemed and influential classical musicians in the world, bringing talent and energy and imagination to every concert performance, described by the Chicago Sun-Times, " When a pair of genuine artists explodes on the stage, exuding not only glamour and theatrical flair but also suberb musical insight, the audiences thrill is twofold." Add to that violinist Philip Setzer - a founding member of the Emerson String Quartet where he played alongside David Finckel for 33 years - who has garnered awards and acclaim worldwide and you have an incomparable trio. These three accomplished artists will perform from the Merrill stage a program that will include works by Beethoven, Shostakovich and Dvorak.
One hour prior to this performance at 2 pm join Ovations Offstage for a pre-performance lecture, The Piano Trio: An Orchestra in a Box in the Green Room at Merrill Auditorium. In this lecture, Director of String Studies and Orchestral Activities at University of Southern Maine and Conductor of Southern Maine Symphony and Portland Youth Symphony, Rob Lehmann will provide an overview of the unique, magical combination of strings and piano which has elicited some of the greatest works of chamber music ever written.
