For 30 years Lie-Nielsen Toolworks has been manufacturing exquisite hand woodworking tools locally in Warren, Maine, and in 2009 received the state of Maine’s Governor’s Award for Business
Excellence. Host and owner Tom Lie-Nielson will discuss the fascinating history of the company and lead participants in a full tour of the manufacturing process, including casting, milling and assembly. Attendees will have a rare opportunity to see the detail and craftsmanship that goes into producing these heirloom tools. After the tour, participants will enjoy wine and cheese in the classroom where skilled staff will demonstrate practical uses of hand planes and answer woodworking questions.
The tour is limited to 20 participants, and the cost is $35 for GRLT members and $45 for non-members. Last year’s tour of the Toolworks was exceptionally popular and sold out quickly. Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.georgesriver.org/revelry or by calling (207) 594-5166.
GRLT’s 2013 Revelry for the River is a year full of diverse activities -- antiques appraising and special art events, gourmet food and wine presentations, visits to lesser known watershed and coastal places, Celtic music, and much more -- that will showcase the beauty of the St. George River watershed and continue the celebration of the Land Trust’s conservation success in mid-coast Maine in its 26th year.
Organized in 1987, the Georges River Land Trust works to conserve the ecosystems and traditional heritage of the Georges River watershed region through permanent land protection, stewardship, education and outdoor experiences.
