TEMPO Strikes “Gold” at The Grand!

Ellsworth, Maine - It’s live music with a silent film as TEMPO-The Eastern Maine Pops Orchestra for Young Musicians- performs an original score by Rebecca Edmondson as accompaniment to Charlie Chaplin’s classic comedic silent film, “The Gold Rush,” screening at The Grand on Friday January 25th at 7pm.

TEMPO brings an all-new original score that will be played live by the youth orchestra in synch with the film! The orchestra is conducted by Rebecca Edmondson – composer of this new score - and Ethan Edmondson, with thirty middle school and HS musicians from Central and Downeast Maine (some traveling from as far away as Herman and Benedicta).  Every Saturday morning this group rehearses on stage at The Grand in preparation for this all-new event on January 25th – the first event in 2013 marking The Grand’s 75th year!

The film- which charts a prospector’s search for fortune in the Klondike and his discovery of romance (with the beautiful Georgia Hale)- forever cemented the iconic status of Chaplin and his Little Tramp character. Shot partly on location in the Sierra Nevada and featuring such timeless gags as the dance of the dinner rolls and the meal of boiled shoe leather, “The Gold Rush” is an indelible work of heartwarming hilarity.

Bring a friend, share the experience, and attend The Grand Friday January 25th at 7pm for a one-time-only event:  TEMPO - The Eastern Maine Pops Orchestra for Young Musicians - performing an original score as an accompaniment to Charlie Chaplin’s classic comedic silent film “The Gold Rush”.

Tickets are available at The Grand box office (667-9500) or online at www.grandonline.org and are $15 for General Admission and $10 for Children 12 and under.

This screening/performance is part of The Grand’s 75th Anniversary series, a program of events designed to celebrate the history of The Grand while showcasing the best of what The Grand has to offer in the performing arts including theatre, film, music, live comedy and more.
