Secrets and Lies at Dreamland Theater

Bath, Maine - Sagadahoc Preservation's Dreamland Theater will screen Secrets and Lies on January 24th at 7pm at the Winter Street Center, in Bath. Secrets & Lies is a 1996 British film directed by Mike Leigh and starring Timothy Spall, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Brenda Blethyn, and Phyllis Logan. Blethyn won the award for Best Actress at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival. The film won numerous other awards, including the Palme d'Or, and received five Academy Award nominations.The film tells the story of Hortense Cumberbatch, a successful black optometrist, who is adopted and has chosen to trace her family history and discovers that her birth mother, Cynthia Purley, is a working class, 'downwardly immobile', white woman. This week's movie is sponsored by House of Logan in Bath.

Movies are shown every Thursday at 7pm at the Dreamland Theater at the Winter Street Center in Bath. The suggested donation is $5. The 2012-2013 season is underwritten by Jorgensen Landscaping. Movies are generously donated by River Bottom Video in Bath. All proceeds go toward the maintenance of the Winter Street Center.
