Re-enactors Wanted for James Howard Company

Fort Western in 1936
Augusta, Maine - Hear ye! Hear ye, all history buffs!  If you have an interest in the French and Indian War or the Revolutionary War era of New England and would like to be a member of Old Fort Western’s James Howard Company, please come to a new member meeting.  The meeting will be held at Old Fort Western’s Learning Gallery in the City Center building next to the fort at 16 Cony Street at 12:00pm on Saturday, January 19, 2013.

The James Howard’s Company is a living history reenactment unit based out of and in association with Old Fort Western, the 1754 National Historic Landmark fort, store, and house museum on the Kennebec River in downtown Augusta.  The company is dedicated to preserving and promoting Old Fort Western by participating in activities both at Old Fort Western and offsite. The Company takes its name from Captain James Howard, Captain at Fort Western from 1754-1767.

This is an opportunity to experience what a soldier’s life was like in 18th century New England by exploring soldiering and the activities involved in the daily life of a soldier surviving on the frontier.  This is a volunteer opportunity and although Fort Western can lend some clothing and equipment for the beginner, there will be some expense incurred by the volunteer for period footwear, supplies and accessories.

Please feel free to call or e-mail Old Fort Western at 626-2385 or oldfort@oldfortwestern.org for more information.
