Thomaston, Maine - On Monday Trekkers begins the eighth year of its Big Trek/Little Trek program, a mentoring program that pairs high school students with third and fourth grade students from St. George School and Lura Libby School. Students from Oceanside High School will be participating, and will be contributing over 100 hours of community service this fall.
Big Trek/Little Trek pairs meet one hour a week for seven weeks and participate in activities in both large group settings and one-on-one, allowing space for connections and relationships to build. Students spend a lot of time being active together outdoors on the playground, playing basketball, or winding down the afternoon together indoors by playing board games and doing arts and crafts.
“We have a lot of great high school mentors signed up for this fall’s session,” said Trekkers Program Coordinator Alaina Ennamorati, “and I’m excited to see them interact with the elementary school students in fun, positive ways. It’s what makes this program so successful.”
Another seven-week session of Big Trek/Little Trek will be offered in the spring. Any RSU #13 high school student can apply to be a mentor.
