The Gondoliers Premieres in February!
Join us at The Grand!
ELLSWORTH – In the heart of winter, the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine (GSSME) has been filling cold nights with the warmth of laughter and good company with their annual performances of the comedic operettas of Gilbert & Sullivan. This season’s production of The Gondoliers will take place over two weekends in February: February 7-9 and February 14-16. The Friday shows (Feb. 7 and 14) are at 7 pm and the Saturday/Sunday shows (Feb. 8,9 and 15,16) are at 2 pm.
The story of the opera concerns the young bride of the heir to the throne of the fictional kingdom of
Barataria who arrives in Venice to join her husband. It turns out, however, that he cannot be identified since he was entrusted to the care of a drunken gondolier who mixed up the prince with his own son. To complicate matters the King of Barataria has just been killed. The two young gondoliers must now jointly rule the kingdom until the nurse of the prince can be brought in to determine which of them is the rightful king.
For over 40 years the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine has been bringing laughs and opera to Downeast Maine. Join us this February as we continue this long and glorious family-fun tradition.
Tickets on sale at The Grand or online at www.grandonline.org. $20 for adults and seniors, $5 students (18 and under).
