Gary Gulman & The Great Depress Comedy Tour

Plymouth, NH: Last Comic Standing finalist and Boston native Gary Gulman will perform at The Flying Monkey in Plymouth on Friday, April 5th at 7:30pm as part of “The Great Depress Tour”.  Tickets for this concert start at $25.

Gary Gulman is proving to the comic world that you don’t have to come in first to be a star performer.

Originally from Boston, Gary Gulman has been a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a high school teacher.   Now he is one of the most popular touring comics and one of only a handful of comedians to perform on every single late-night talk show.

For those who have followed his work, Gulman was a finalist on the NBC comic show “Last Comic Standing” in both seasons two and three. Though he didn’t take home the big prize, Gulman has carved out a nice career that has seen his star power rise.

Gulman has made numerous appearances on late-night TV, and has even gotten his own Comedy Central special, “Gary Gulman: Boyish Man.” He was so funny on his initial one-hour special, that Comedy Central greenlit a second one, “In This Economy?” in 2012. In addition to his comedy appearances and specials, Gulman has also appeared in numerous shows, including “Inside Amy Schumer.”

So, as one could say, Gulman is definitely living out his dream, a dream he has had ever since he launched his career, and to see it come to fruition is proof-positive that you don’t have to come in first to be first.

Tickets for Gary Gulman range from $25 - $35.  For more information on upcoming shows or to purchase tickets call the box office at 603-536-2551 or go online at www.flyingmonkeyNH.com.

American Idol Superstar comes to Plymouth

Plymouth, NH: Ruben Stoddard will perform at The Flying Monkey in Plymouth on Saturday, April 6th at 7:30pm.  Best known as American Idol Season 2 winner, Ruben Studdard will pay homage to his hero Luther Vandross with his show “Ruben sings Luther”.  Tickets for this concert start at $54.

Ruben sings Luther.

“My goal was to not only to pay tribute to Luther but to add my own passion on top of Luther’s brilliant songs. It all started with my mom who has always loved Luther and played his music in our home continuously – especially during Christmas,” Studdard explains. He goes on to say, “But people always asked when I was going to do an album of Luther’s songs. Happily the day has arrived. It was a thrilling experience selecting the songs from his different albums and putting my own interpretation on them. I am so proud of this record.”

Ruben Studdard is the winner of American Idol’s second season and since then has been a Grammy nominated R&B, gospel and pop singer. He has recorded six studio albums, appears frequently on TV, toured extensively and has sold over two million albums worldwide.

“As for the tour, we are not only recreating some of the production elements, musicians, background singers, wardrobe and lighting that were ever present when Luther took the stage, but my heart and soul will be in every note I sing as I honor one of the greatest vocalists we’ve ever had.”

Tickets for Ruben Studdard Sings Luther Vandross range from $54 - $64.  For more information on upcoming shows or to purchase tickets call the box office at 603-536-2551 or go online at www.flyingmonkeyNH.com.

Downtown Waterville Wi-Fi Hits Milestone of 100 Thousand Users in 7 Months

Anticipated coverage area shaded in red
WATERVILLE, ME, March 28 – By March 1 of this year, Downtown Waterville Wi-Fi had served over 124,000 users in just seven months.
“As the usage data illustrates, public wi-fi is increasingly becoming a necessity for patrons of downtown districts,” explains Garvan D. Donegan, director of planning and economic development for Central Maine Growth Council, which manages the wi-fi service. “The opportunity to stay connected to the internet encourages visitors to extend their stay in downtown, exploring the shops, restaurants, and recreational venues, boosting commerce and tourism.”
The free public wi-fi service, established through an initial investment by Colby College and continually supported by Kennebec Savings Bank, MaineGeneral Health, Northern Light Inland Hospital, and Thomas College’s Harold Alfond Institute for Business Innovation, makes Waterville’s downtown one of the most connected in Maine.
Wi-fi coverage is available outdoors and extends north-south from Post Office Square to Hathaway Creative Center, east-west from Head of Falls to the Concourse, allowing visitors and residents to stay connected while recreating along RiverWalk, enjoying a musical performance, browsing or vending at Downtown Waterville Farmers’ Market.
The launch of Downtown Waterville Wi-Fi in August of 2018 coincided with several technology-related developments in the downtown district. CGI, a global information technology and consulting firm, moved into its new office space at 173 Main Street, GenoTyping Center of America opened a biotechnology laboratory in Hathaway Creative Center, and Bricks CoWorking and Innovation Space launched its coworking space in Hathaway Creative Center, becoming the home of Central Maine Tech Night.
“The city of Waterville is emerging as a technology hub, and Downtown Waterville Wi-Fi further positions the city for future growth,” states Donegan.
Downtown Waterville Wi-Fi partners work with Axiom, a company focused on delivering broadband to rural communities, and FirstLight, a leading provider of Internet in the Northeast.
Central Maine Growth Council

BREAKING: Firefighters Working Fire At Dragon Products (Fires Out)

9:38am Wednesday Morning: According to Thomaston Fire Department, Responded to the report of a structure fire at 107 New County Road, Dragon Products. Upon arrival found heavy fire in possession of 3 floors in the building known as the Core Building. An employee reported finding a large leak/spill of #2 fuel oil on the floor which was flowing into a below grade mechanical area. In this area the fuel oil ignited spreading back to the leak origin and ultimately throughout the building. The fire was stopped just as it was entering a lab and control room areas. There is extensive structural damage to the Core Building and there were no injuries to plant staff or firefighters. The fire crews did an excellent job to confine the fire to the building of origin which seemed to be a monumental task upon arrival of the first units. Knox County Communications coordinated the response flawlessly as they continued to handle other emergencies in the county simultaneously including a chimney fire in Camden.

The Response: Knox County Regional Communications Center, 11 fire departments, approximately 75 firefighters staffing 20 pieces of fire apparatus, Thomaston Ambulance, Central Maine Power, Dragon Products Staff, Knox County Emergency Management and the foam trailer from Waldo County.
