Women's cross country eighth in Division III in Open New Englands JV race

BOSTON -- The Bates women's cross country team competed in the JV 5K race Saturday at the Open New England Championships, placing 20th out of 28 teams. The Bobcats were eighth out of 13 Division III teams in the race.

First-year runner Wendy Memishian (Medway, Mass.) led Bates in a time of 20:19.1, or 87th overall out of 321 runners. Junior Ashley Pollack (Port Washington, N.Y.) placed 98th overall in 20:24.3.

Senior Ellie Miller (Potomac, Md.) placed 171st overall in 21:10.9, while sophomore Rachael Rosow (Avon, Conn.) took 188th place in 21:24.4. First-year Ruth van Kampen (Brunswick, Maine) rounded out the team's scoring in 191st, at 21:25.9. First-year Katie Kelley (San Anselmo, Calif.) and sophomore Julia Nemy (San Francisco, Calif.) were Bates' displacers in 21:34.5 and 21:38.4, respecitvely.

Bates will compete at the Maine State Championships on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 3pm.
