GORHAM, Maine -- The visiting University of Massachusetts Dartmouth
Corsairs swept the University of Southern Maine Huskies 9-0 in a Little
East Conference match Saturday afternoon at the Gorham High School
courts.
The win was the second straight for the Corsairs who
climbed back over the .500 mark at 6-5 overall (4-3 in conference). The
Huskies fell to 2-9 overall and are still winless in the conference.
UMass Dartmouth took an early 3-0 lead sweeping the three doubles matches. Freshman Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet) and senior Maggie LeBrun (Mattapoisett, Mass./Tabor Academy) led the way from the top of the doubles lineup posting an 8-3 win over USM juniors Katie Quinn (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and Liz Martin (Naugatuck, Conn./Woodland Regional).
The Corsairs won all six singles matches without losing
set. Lahaie defeated Quinn in straight sets at number one while LeBrun
dispatched senior Emily Estes (Gorham, Maine) in two sets at number three.
Southern Maine will travel to Little East Conference foe
Bridgewater State University next Saturday (1:00 p.m.) for its final
match of the fall season. UMass Dartmouth looks to make it three in a
row when it plays a non-conference match against Lesley College on
Tuesday (7:30 p.m.) in Cambridge, Mass.
