Maine's record is now 0-0-2 on the season, while North Dakota's record is now 1-0-1 on the year.
North Dakota had a strong offensive attack throughout the entire game, outshooting Maine 45-20.
Freshman goalie Rob McGovern received his first career start in net for the Black Bears. McGovern the 6'4" goaltender, had a huge performance for Maine, saving 44 shots on the night.
North Dakota's goalie Cam Johnson stopped 19 shots for the game.
During the first period, Maine and North Dakota each had power play opportunities but were unable
to capitalize, ending the period in a 0-0 tie.
North Dakota started the second period by converting on a power play opportunity 1:26 into the period off of a Chris Wilkie goal to give North Dakota a 1-0 lead.
Seven minutes later, Maine's Cam Brown was able to score his first goal of the season, also on a power play opportunity. Blaine Byron was able to deliver the assist to tie the game for the Black Bears 1-1.
Throughout the reamainder of the second and third, North Dakota outshot Maine, but McGovern made key saves and kept the game tied heading into overtime.
In overtime, Maine and North Dakota were unable to break the tie. For the second night in a row, the Black Bears were involved in a shootout.
North Dakota opened the first round in the shootout and was unable to score. Maine's Nolan Vesey was able to sneak the puck past the North Dakota goalie, Cam Johnson, to give Maine a 1-0 lead in the shootout. North Dakota was unable to convert on their next two attempts and the Black Bears were able to win the shootout.
Maine returns to action next Friday Oct. 16 at 7:00 p.m. against Union.
