Thomas dips to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference while Colby-Sawyer improves to 6-5 overall and 4-0 in the NAC.
Zach Elmore gave the Chargers a quick 1-0 lead 3:34 into the game when he received a through ball from Denali Sexton and scored into the left side of the net. Eight minutes later, Elmore snuck his second goal of the game into the net off the left post off a feed from freshman Anthony Romeo.
Thomas responded 30 seconds later, cutting the Chargers lead in half. Senior Tre Ming ripped a shot from 20 yards that was just inside the right post and past the diving Colby-Sawyer keeper. Josh Emard was credited with the assist.
Thomas held an 11-3 edge in first half shots, but the Chargers took a 2-1 lead into the break.
Elmore got his hat trick less than five minutes into the second frame when a ball from sophomore Jake Sykes crossed the box and found his foot. Elmore calmly scored the ball into the opposite corner of the goal. The Terriers came within a goal with 13 minutes remaining when Adam LaBrie put back a rebound off his own shot. The Chargers defense was able to hold up in the final minutes and secure the 3-2 victory.
Joakim Sternas made one save in the loss for the Terriers while Shane Sacks finished with seven saves for his first collegiate win. Thomas outshot the Chargers 22-10 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Terriers will return to the field on Saturday, October 10, to host Green Mountain in a North Atlantic Conference game. The contest will be at Smith field for a 3:30 p.m. start.
