Field Hockey Captures Road Win at Wellesley

Kelsey Mullaney gave Bowdoin an insurance goal late in the second
WELLESLEY, Massachusetts – The Bowdoin field hockey team used a pair of second half goals to earn a 2-0 win over previously undefeated Wellesley College on Thursday evening.

The second ranked Polar Bears improve to 7-0 on the season, handing the ninth ranked Blue (8-1) their first loss of the year.

How it Happened
  • Rachel Kennedy broke the 0-0 tie in the game's 50th minute after corralling the ball at the top of the circle. Before Wellesley could clear the ball and eliminate the Bowdoin thread, Kennedy drove a shot on net that caught a piece of Blue goalie Lucy Hurlock before crashing into the cage.
  • The Polar Bears converted on their final penalty corner to double their lead with just under four minutes to play. Mettler Growney inserted to Emily McColgan who found Kelsey Mullaney in the center. Mullaney's drive beat Hurlock on her right side to put Bowdoin ahead 2-0.
  • Hurlock made 10 saves in the contest, including seven in the second half, as Bowdoin outshot the hosts 16-1. The Polar Bears held a 9-1 edge in corners.
Up Next
  • Bowdoin returns home for another non-conference matchup against UMaine-Farmington on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m.
