Behringer's header gives Bobcats the win

Lewiston, Maine - The Bates women's soccer program got their first conference win of the season in spectacular fashion in a 1-0 victory over Trinity College (6-2, 3-2) on Saturday.

A perfect set piece from Allison Hill into the box allowed Hannah Behringer to head it home in the 58th minute to give Bates a lead they would not surrender.

The Bobcats (4-2-2, 1-1-2) received outstanding play from junior keeper Sarah McCarthy as she tallied eight saves in the shutout. All four of the Bobcats' wins this season have been shutout victories.

A scoreless first half saw neither side threaten too much offensively but the action picked up in the second half as multiple shots from both sides came very close to finding the back of the net.

McCarthy made a particularly nice save on a break-away opportunity for Trinity as she slid to clear the ball away.

Behringer's third goal of the season was set up by a foul on Trinity. Hill took the free kick and delivered a perfect cross from the set piece into the box. Behringer timed her header perfectly to make it 1-0 in favor of Bates.

The women's soccer program is back in action Sunday afternoon as they host the University of Maine-Fort Kent. The match starts at 1:00.
