Grant from the Maine Community Foundation will support partnership between KVAA & UMA

The opening reception of "Higher Forms of Art" at UMA's Richmond Gallery on March 14, 2014. Students from Cony, Gardiner, Hall-Dale, Kents Hill, Maranancook, Monmouth and Richmond High Schools participated in the exhibition, which was presented in partnership by the Kennebec Valley Art and UMA's architecture department.
Hallowell, Maine -- The Kennebec Valley Art Association (KVAA) recently received a $2,400 grant from the ME Expansion Art Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to support the second year of a partnership with the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA), to jointly present art exhibitions in UMA's Richmond Gallery in Handley Hall in downtown Augusta. The first joint exhibition of 2015 will be "Higher Forms of Art", the KVAA's 9th annual showcase of work by area high school artists.  Higher Forms will be on view March 6-28, 2015 in UMA's Richmond Gallery at 331 Water Street in downtown Augusta, with an opening reception on Friday, March 6 (times TBA). "Higher Forms of Art" gives emerging artists the opportunity to show their work in a professional space, and to get a taste of what goes into organizing a professional art exhibit. The students participate in hanging the exhibition, designing the exhibition postcard, and help to plan and organize the opening reception. Two or three additional exhibitions are currently being planned for the Richmond Gallery in 2015 by Harlow Gallery staff in partnership with UMA's art and architecture departments.
