Portland Public Library adds fourth Camden Conference program to series

The Ninth Annual 100-Minute History Roadshow - RUSSIA AND THE GREAT WAR 1861-1917
Thursday, February 12th at 6:00pm in the Rines Auditorium

Portland, Maine - Portland Public Library is pleased to announce that they will host the Tom & Mac Show again this year along with three previously scheduled Camden Conference Programs .  Mac Deford and Tom DeMarco are back with their patented 100-minute history extravaganza, this time on the subject of Imperial Russia and its implacable march to doom in the Great War.  Along the way you’ll meet colorful characters like Tsar Alexander-II (the Liberator), Bismarck, Louis Napoleon, the Anarchists Bakunin and Kropotkin, Lola Montes, Trotsky, Lenin, and the lovely Krupskaya, Wilhelm and Nicholas and Rasputin.  You might even come away with a partial answer to the question that haunts historians to this day: Why did the Great War happen and how could it have been avoided?

About the presenters

Tom DeMarco is the author of thirteen books (his sci-fi novel Andronescu's Paradox is the most recent) and a Principal of The Atlantic Systems Guild, a technology think tank with offices in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany.   Mac Deford is a retired Foreign Service officer with service primarily in the Middle East.  He had a subsequent career with Merrill Lynch International, mostly in South America and Asia, and is a regular columnist with The Free Press.

The library hosted the first in this series on Thursday, November 20th with a presentation about the Portland Archangel Sister-City program by Neale Duffett in the Lewis Gallery.  Subsequent events are as follows:
