Paul Trowbridge: One Man Show At the Blue Hill Library

Blue Hill, Maine -  Local artist Paul Trowbridge will exhibit Recent Drawings and Watercolors at the Blue Hill Public Library during the month of January. The show includes local landscapes, as well as figure drawings from the Blue Hill life drawing group sessions.

While working “en plein air” Paul Trowbridge tries to capture the feeling of the moment, make observations of nature and respond in an unedited direct way.  He endeavors to work “with a fresh eye, and straightforward depictions without much interpretation, but with a personal perspective unique by definition.” In his studio, he often finishes works started in the field by memory, reworks pieces and develops new work based on the original. This work sometimes results in “more interpretation, more emotion, and more expression of intellect, which in turn has resulted in some more stylized works and some greater abstraction of the subjects.”

Paul Trowbridge was born in Bar Harbor and has lived in Sedgwick since the 1970’s. He received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Memphis, studied at the Museum School in Boston and University of Maine, and received a BA degree in the Creative Arts from Principia College. He has worked as an animation and background artist for Neworld Animation in Blue Hill, and an illustrator for Woodenboat and Downeast Magazines. He is a member of the Deer Isle Artist Association and is currently represented by Isalos Fine Art in Stoningtion. Examples of his work may be seen on his website, paultrowbridgeart.com.

The public is invited to an opening reception on Thursday January 2nd from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. The exhibit will be available for viewing during library hours starting January 2nd. For more information, call the library at 374-5515.
