Blue Hill, Maine - Local outdoor recreation enthusiasts Steve & Terri Titcomb will present a slide show of their recent trek around Mont Blanc at the Blue Hill Public Library on Thursday January 31st at 7:00 PM. Through the program they will relive their 14-day, self-guided tour staying in refuges (which are like hostels) through France, Italy & Switzerland and also will offer tips on how to plan such a tour.
Mont Blanc is the highest peak in the Alps, Western Europe and the European Union, at 15,782 feet. The summit is on the border between France and Italy, with some of the mountain also lying in Switzerland. The Tour de Mont Blanc is a popular hiking trail that circles the mountain, through all three countries, 105 miles in length and 32.8 thousand feet of combined height gain and loss.
Steve and Terri have lived in Blue Hill for 12 years and travel regularly, always taking lots of pictures. Steve has presented several popular slide and travel programs at the Library. Their previous excursions have included treks in Ireland and around the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal; kayaking and backcountry skiing expeditions in the U.S. and Canada. For more information call the Library at 374-5515.
