NMT AUDITIONS TO BE HELD FOR 2013 SUMMER SEASON MUSICAL

Northport, Maine - Northport Music Theater, located at 851 Atlantic Highway in Northport, will hold auditions for its summer main stage production, The Spitfire Grill by James Valcq (Music and Book) and Fred Alley, (Lyrics and Book). Auditions for all roles and orchestra, and production team interviews will be held at the theater on Saturday February 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The production is directed by Tobin Malone. The Spitfire Grill, is based on the award-winning film by Lee David Zlotoff and is a full length, musical drama that has become one of the most often-produced new American musicals.

In the musical, a feisty parolee follows her dreams, selected from an old travel book page, to a small town in Wisconsin and finds a place for herself working at Hannah's Spitfire Grill. It is for sale but there are no takers for the only eatery in the depressed town, so newcomer Percy suggests to Hannah that she raffle it off. Entry fees are one hundred dollars and the best essay on why you want the grill wins. Soon, mail is arriving by the wheelbarrow full and things are definitely cookin' at the Spitfire Grill.

Characters needed for the production are as follows: female, (Percy Talbot) early 20’s, folk country belt to ‘D’, some head voice required; female, (Hannah Ferguson) about 70, mezzo/alto chest range; female,
(Shelby Thorpe) mid-30’s, folk soprano with strong high belt to ‘D’; female, (Effy Krayneck) 50’s, mezzo/alto chest range, carries close harmony; male, (Caleb Thorpe) early 40’s, folk/rock voice with an edge (Top ‘G’); male, (Sheriff Joe Sutter) mid-late 20’s, folk tenor to a ‘G’ (touches an ‘A’); male, (The Visitor) mid 40’s, non-singing role.

The following production team positions are open: stage manager, costume designer, light designer, and set designer. Musicians (must be able to read and have experience playing musicals) needed are: piano, violin, cello, accordion, and guitar/mandolin. If you are able to volunteer, the following people are also needed: set builders (3), set painters (2), props master, and costume assistant. Previous experience a must.

All actors must submit headshot and professional resume prior to February 1st to info@northportmusictheater.com. Technical personnel, orchestra, and volunteers, please submit your resume. Positions are paid with some gas stipends given as well. Those auditioning for a singing part are asked to bring a short song. An accompanist will be provided. Orchestra - have a 2-3 minute song prepared. Music rehearsals will initially be held once a week starting in May. Performance dates are July 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28.


Directions: from the north go 6 miles south of Belfast on US Route 1, theater driveway is on the right, just before Jim’s VW on the left. You’ll see the building as you drive in, go to backstage door on right side of theater. From the south: drive five miles north of Lincolnville Beach. Look for Wentworth grocery on the left. Drive one mile, theater driveway is on left. Go to backstage door on right side of building.

Northport Music theater is a small, intimate summer musical theater that produces contemporary American musical theater and provides summer camps for area students. It received non-profit status in September of 2012. The theater seats 128 people, has general admission seating only, is air conditioned and handicapped accessible.
