JP Jofre Hard Tango Chamber Band to perform at Strand Theatre on Saturday, January 26, presented by Bay Chamber Concerts
After sold-out, standing-ovation performances at the Umbria and Sudtirol Festival in Italy, composer, and bandoneón player par excellence, JP Jofre will make his Bay Chamber Concerts debut on January 26 with a sensuous program of music by Astor Piazolla, Leo Brower, and his own much-praised compositions.
A winner of the National Prize of the Arts Grant in Argentina, Mr. Jofre has taken contemporary tango to some of the most important venues in Asia, Europe, America and the Caribbean as soloist, composer and arranger. He has collaborated with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Paquito D' Rivera Sextet, Nina Beilina, Dartmouth Wind Symphony Orchestra, Westchester Jazz Orchestra, San Juan National Symphony Orchestra, and I soloist di Perugia, among many others. Mr. Jofre has also received commissions from many festivals and orchestras such as the Umbria Jazz Festival, Musica de Camara, and Bachanalia Taiwan. A recent review in Puerto Rico Jazz states, “Jofre impresses us again with his mastery on the bandoneón.”
For the Bay Chamber performance Jofre will be joined onstage by violinist Christiana Liberis and pianist Yoni Levyatov. Born in Naples, Italy, Christiana Liberis began violin and piano studies while living in Athens, Greece and after moving to the United States attended Wellesley College, the Conservatory at Purchase College and Mannes College of Music. Israeli pianist and composer, Yoni Levyatov made his New York concerto debut in 2005 playing the Schumann concerto under the baton of Phillippe Entremont, as the winner of the Koch Competition, and his Israeli concerto debut under the baton of Marek Piarowski, playing the Schumann concerto with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
Tickets to “JP Jofre Hard Tango Chamber Band” are $35; $25 for ages 21-35, and just $10 for ages 21 and under. Seating is general admission. For more information and tickets please visit Bay Chamber online at www.baychamberconcerts.org or call the Box Office at (207) 236-2823.
