Exhibit: Vintage Dolls From the 1950’s

Blue Hill, Maine - Brooklin resident Paula Dougherty is currently exhibiting her collection of vintage dolls and doll clothing from the 1950’s in the Blue Hill Public Library’s children’s room through the end of March. Included in the exhibit are an original “Ginny” by Vogue, and two beautiful copy-cat dolls by Madame Alexander, along with original “Barbie and Ken” dolls, and a large Madame Alexander doll in her original Asian costume. The dolls are displayed with their clothing and other accessories.

Paula, who is a well-known local artist, says she played routinely with her dolls from age 2 up through age 13. She believes there is a link between this and the work she eventually pursued for a living—portrait painting and figurative art. As a child she loved to study her little dolls’ faces and played for hours at a time with the “Ginnys.”

Also with the exhibit are a vintage Japanese porcelain tea set that Paula played with as a child and some cotton fabric “LaLa” dolls designed by Paula and sewn by a local artisan. The exhibit will be available for viewing during regular Library hours. For more information call Pat at 374-5515.
